Moroccan CBD hash from the Rif: our partnership with the Bio Cannat cooperative

In May 2024, Deli Hemp became one of the first distributors of Moroccan CBD hash, through an exclusive partnership with Bio Cannat, a cooperative based in Chefchaouen province, in the Rif. The flagship of that partnership is Le Hashkom, a cold-pressed CBD resin. Here is who Bio Cannat is, where the resin comes from and how it sits within our wholesale CBD resin range.

What is a cooperative?

A cooperative is a business or organisation whose members own it as equals and work together, by choice, to meet shared economic, social or cultural needs. Bio Cannat is one: a group of growers and processors pooling their production rather than a single private company.

Bio Cannat, a pioneer of legal cannabis processing in Morocco

Bio Cannat was one of the first cooperatives authorised to process and export cannabis and its products legally in Morocco. Shortly before our partnership was announced, it finished building a cannabis processing unit between Chefchaouen and the Rif, in the north of the country. It was the first facility of its kind in Morocco.

The plant is equipped to extract several valuable compounds from the cannabis leaf, including cannabidiol (CBD), cannabigerol (CBG) and cannabinol (CBN). For the Moroccan cannabis industry, it marked a real step forward, and Bio Cannat became the first Moroccan cooperative authorised to process, market and export cannabis and derived products.

Why CBD resin from the Rif has a reputation

The Rif valley, in northern Morocco, is known worldwide for its hemp. The climate suits the plant, and local growers rely on traditional know-how and harvest the plants at the right moment. Rif resin is especially valued for its high CBD content, and buyers well beyond Morocco look for it.

The resin we import comes from an organic cooperative in Chefchaouen. It grows hemp organically, using farming methods that respect the environment and traditional techniques. No pesticides, herbicides or other harmful chemicals are used.

How does Morocco regulate cannabis?

In June 2021, Morocco adopted a law that marked a turning point in its cannabis policy. It legalised the use of CBD, the non-psychoactive compound of cannabis, and opened the way to controlled cultivation for medical and industrial purposes in designated regions. Chefchaouen and Al Hoceïma, both known for a climate that suits the plant, were among the authorised areas. The aim was to bring production under supervision and to give local farmers new economic prospects.

That framework governs production in Morocco. It does not decide the status of the resin in the country where you sell it. Our resins comply with French law (delta-9-THC ≤ 0.3%). Rules on hemp resin, flower and other hemp products vary between countries and can be much stricter; in the UK, the status of hemp flower is still contested. Le Hashkom: a cold-pressed CBD hash from Chefchaouen

Le Hashkom is the flagship product of the partnership: a premium CBD resin, cold-pressed, from the farmland of Chefchaouen province. When we launched it in May 2024, no other supplier offered it.
